In Thin Air is a musical companion to Robert and Jackie’s The Book of Birds, a love letter to the splendours and mysteries of birdlife and a clear call to halt the loss of birds from land, sea and sky. The music was created in the contemplative green oak roundhouse of Ty Sanctaidd in the grounds of Ty Trefacwn in South West Wales, then recorded at Castle Sound Studio in Pencaitland, East Lothian. Like the group’s other albums, it was recorded and produced by Andy Bell of Hudson Records. Inspired by the book’s mantra, “Nest, Egg, Beak, Song, Feather, Flight, Migration”, the seven musicians shape an intricate album with an overarching narrative, tracing birds from birth to flight. The ensemble features Karine Polwart, Julie Fowlis, Seckou Keita, Kris Drever, Rachel Newton, Beth Porter and Jim Molyneux.
